Over August we’re taking a step back to coordinate and refocus our energies on some of the exciting projects we have coming up next month, but while we’re keeping out of the sun we wanted to check in and let you know that we’re still here for you. ICONIC BRISTOL

Up and away

After Thursday’s unpredictable wind conditions led to cancellation, Bristol Ballon Fiesta - one of the city’s most iconic events - is currently underway with the first mass ascent in 3 years. 63 balloons went up at 6.30am with more going up over the weekend and night glows making for a magical ground event.

Bristol's National Hero

Last week we received the sad news that another icon of Bristol has left us. 93 years old, local hero and legendary civil rights activist Roy Hackett MBE passed away on the 3rd of August.

As an organiser of the Bristol Bus Boycott Mr Hackett had a monumental impact on local history when the colour bar was lifted at the Bristol Ominubus Company - a move which many believe was a significant factor nationally leading to the UK’s 1968 Race Relations Act - and as the founder of the what is now St Paul’s Carnival. Without figures like Roy Hackett and the wonderful people he has inspired to fight for what is right, BeOnBoard would not exist. We salute this giant of equality and thank him wholeheartedly for his bravery paving the way forward for equality for millions of people.

IN TRUSTEES WE TRUST

As part of National Inclusion Week, on Thursday 29th September at 10am, you can join us for an insightful chat with speakers who will share their lived experiences as change-makers who have transformed the face of our boardrooms. The session will look at diversity from the perspective of the new trustee and explore what organisations can do to create a culture of belonging that welcomes and embraces difference, diversity of thought and lived experience to help Trustees thrive.

Together with 3SG, our speakers and hosts will show organisations how they can diversify their Boards, increase cognitive diversity of thought and deliver better governance to increase mission impact. Places are limited so sign up today.

We’re thrilled to let you know about our upcoming Diversity of Thought speaker series - live facilitated masterclasses with BAME leaders that will inspire the next generation of leaders.

This October, in partnership with Business West, BeOnBoard will be offering ambitious leaders, aspiring NED and Board trustees, entrepreneurs and middle/senior management the chance to attend our sessions and draw inspiration from BAME leaders, participate in lively discussions with experts and expand your networks so you are better equipped to become a leader.

We’ll be in touch with more details about the events and how you can get involved next month. Watch this space!
